About Zab Judah

He was born Zabdiel “Zab” Judah in Brooklyn, New York, on October 27, 1977. Judah established an amateur record with a score of 110–5. He began his professional career in 1996. Four years later, in 2000, he defeated Jan Piet Bergman in the fourth round to win the IBF junior welterweight championship.

Zab Judah defended his IBF championship five times until losing by second-round TKO to Kostya Tszyu in 2001. The judge, who called a halt to the bout before the bell, was assaulted by an enraged Judah. This resulted in a six-month ban and a $75,000 fine.


Zab began boxing at the age of six. Yoel Judah, his father, was his trainer. Judah excelled from an early age. He won three Golden Gloves championships in New York and two national championships.
